Error: The key you entered is an upgrade key
Posted by Jim Beveridge on 24 January 2009 11:34 PM

Symptom: You entered your license code but received an error message that says, "The key you entered is an upgrade key. You must have a valid key already on the system before installing it. Please enter your original key, then try this one again. If you don't have your original key, or it does not work, please contact the program's author for assistance."

Cause: If you are installing the software on a new computer, you must enter the license code for the standard version before you can enter the upgrade code.

Solution: Please perform the following steps:

  1. Run Address Magic
  2. Check the box labeled "I've purchase Address Magic and have a License Code."
  3. Enter your registration name license code for the standard version of Address Magic.
  4. Click Next
  5. Address Magic will restart
  6. Click Back
  7. Click the Upgrade button
  8. Enter your registration name and license code for the upgrade. You must enter the complete license code, not just the last six characters.
  9. You should see a message that says "The key is valid and has been stored."
  10. Restart Address Magic by clicking the icon on your desktop (three arrows, yellow, orange and red.)
