Error: There is no Exchange mailbox associated with that address

Symptom: You receive an error similar to the following:

04/19/11 07:58:27 [All Users] The user name resolved to John Doe, but there is no Exchange mailbox associated with that address.

Solution: Please try each of the following.

First, make sure that the latest Microsoft Office Service Pack is installed. (Service Pack 2 for Office 2010, Service Pack 3 for Office 2007 or Office 2003.)

Second, if this is a new installation, make sure that the correct OAB (Offline Address Book) has been downloaded. These are the steps for Outlook 2010:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click the Send / Receive tab.
  3. Click the Send/Receive Groups button on the Send & Receive panel.
  4. Select Download Address Book...
  5. Make sure that "Full Details" is selected.
  6. Under "Choose address book", make sure that your Global Address List is selected. If anything else is selected (such as "All Contacts"), then it's almost certainly wrong.
  7. Close the dialog by clicking OK.
  8. Click Send/Receive AllFolders.
