Epicenter Tasks do not run

(Applies to: Epicenter Server)

Problem: You have defined a schedule for tasks in Epicenter, but they never run, or they show Aborted.

Cause: Epicenter uses Windows Task Scheduler to launch scheduled updates. Problems are almost always caused by configuration issues with Windows Task Scheduler.

Solution: Please try the following:

1. If you look at the History view, does it show failure or does it showing nothing (in other words, it never ran?) If it shows failure, look at the error messages.

2. If it never ran, then open Windows Task Scheduler and look at the Epicenter Task in the Connected Software category. Make sure that:

  • the task exists
  • the login name matches your login name.
  • the Last Run Result is 0x0. If the Last Run Result is 0xfffffffd, then you need to close Microsoft Outlook in order for Epicenter to run in the background. This is a limitation of Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016. With Outlook 2016, it's possible you may need to log out of the accout for the task to execute successfully.

3. If there appears to be a problem with the Task Scheduler definition, don't change it in Task Scheduler. Go back to Epicenter, change the schedule for the task to be "Never", save it, then edit it again and set it to the desired schedule.
