Error: MAPI_E_FAILONEPROVIDER / ecRestoreInProgress

Symptom: After upgrading your Exchange Server or switching to Office 365, you receive an error similar to this:
Unable to open the mailbox for xxxxx<>. Microsoft Exchange Information Store reported that, "The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed." Reason: MAPI_E_FAILONEPROVIDER. Support Info: 0x80004005 / Unspecified error / ecRestoreInProgress

Cause: Optimization in Build 436 that was recommended by Microsoft is failing under some conditions.

Solution: Please contact to get Build 437, which contains the hotfix for this problem.

Once you install Build 437, do this:

  1. Open Epicenter Server.
  2. Open the Tools menu and select Exchange Privileges.
  3. Check the box at the bottom of the window to disable the optimization.
