Distribution list members exported from Exchange are missing

Symptom: After converting from the Exchange Server GAL to any other format (but particularly Microsoft Outlook), the distribution list members do not appear when you open the distribution list.

Cause: Exchange Server creates a single email address that refers to the entire distribution list. For most cases, use of this alias is preferable because use of the alias allows Exchange Server to figure out the correct recipients, so the alias will still work properly even if the distribution list members change.

Solution:  This behavior is the way Exchange Server (and Address Magic) are designed. For most users, this will give the desired result. However, Address Magic Enterprise provides the option of forcing the expansion of distribution list members with this option:

-i ExpandDistLists=1

Note that you must have permission to see the individual members of distribution lists for this option to work properly. Exchange Server contains a checkbox that allows the administrator to hide distribution list members, which can prevent Address Magic from giving you the desired result.
