Problem: You need to convert messages to their own PST file.
Cause: ePreserver can only convert to the default PST file in Outlook.
Solution: The following list shows a workaround to the problem. This workaround is only recommended for Power Users who are very comfortable with Windows and Outlook administration.
IMPORTANT: Connected Software cannot provide technical support on the instructions below! Use them at your own risk.
- Shut down Outlook using File / Exit.
- Open Control Panel and open Mail (you may need to switch to "Classic View" to see the choice for Mail.)
- You'll see a window with a page that says, "The following profiles are set up on this computer."
- Click Add, type in AOL under Profile Name, and click OK.
- You'll see a new window titled "E-mail Accounts." Click Next.
- Select POP3 and click Next.
- Fill in some dummy data and click Next. You don't need a POP3 account to complete this step.
- Click Finish.
- You'll be back at the page you saw in Step #3. Under "Always use this profile," note the current settings, then select AOL and click Apply.
- Start Outlook. You should see your Personal Folders and they should be empty. (Don't worry - your original data is still safe.)
- Run ePreserver and convert everything to Outlook. Make sure you click the Settings button in ePreserver and check the box labeled, "Import all messages, even if previously converted."
- When ePreserver has finished, go to Outlook, right-click on the Personal Folders folder at the top of the folder list of the left, and choose Properties.
- Click Advanced.
- Next to Filename, right-click on the text and choose Select All. Right-click again and choose Copy.
- From the File menu in Outlook choose Exit.
- Go back to the Mail applet in Control Panel.
- Under "Always use this profile", select the original setting you noted in Step #9.
- Restart Outlook. From the File menu choose Open / Outlook Data File.
- Next to "File name:", right-click the box and choose Paste.
- Click OK.
- Restart Outlook
- Your AOL data should now appear in Outlook.
